![]() ![]() At times the twin Januses even talk to each other, revealing inner thoughts, demons and dreams. Myler often has both Janises in dialogue scenes being interviewed by an unseen reporter (Wayne Tibbetts). Amelia Campbell is the non-performing Janis. Love, Janis is inspired by Laura Joplin's (Janis' sister) book of the same name, with Randal Myler's adaptation and direction quite interesting. From the Janis-penned "What Good Can Drinking Do?" in Act One to her own "Mercedes Benz?" and interpretation of Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby McGee" in Act Two, Hart's delivery was Janis at her very best. The Lyceum rocked, the audience rocked, and the energy level on and off the stage was off the charts. (The demands of the singing role require the two to alternate performances.) Both are backed up by a group of excellent musicians under the direction of Sam Andrew, co founder of Big Brother and the Holding Company, the band that gave Janis her start. Her enormous energy dominated the evening, an evening whose singing Janis was Beth Hart, a role also shared by Kacee Clanton-Iniquez. Every utterance, every note, every look, every movement was Janis. Janis Joplin was on that stage of the Lyceum. ![]() The house lights dimmed, the stage brightened, and we time-traveled just over 30 years to the days of Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll - Janis Joplin style. ![]()

![]() ![]() So whether you are young or young at heart, I hope you will enjoy this ride into the twilight world of Calcutta in the 1930s, where the shadows of the night are thicker than blood. ![]() My intention when crafting these books was to create stories that would appeal to them also that they would hopefully be enjoyed by more mature and experienced fellow travelers for whom they might rekindle memories of the first books they had read, those magical tales of mystery and adventure that every reader hoards in the treasure chest of his or her brain. The Midnight Palace is the second in a series of novels I wrote for young adults in the 1990s, back when even I was probably more young than adult myself! Writing for the young, or the young at heart, is a risky business, and I learned that teenagers are a notoriously demanding and honest audience. ![]() ![]() ![]() "Chantelle's about twenty miles down the road. In it there was a sign that said "Help Wanted." In the little white space at the bottom of the sign was written, "Waitress." They probably didn't even have martini glasses. I looked back at the bar, which would seem was not high-class and not highbrow. There was a beat-up, old blue Chevy pickup parked at the edge of the parking lot. The first 20 percent of this book is incredibly slow. From the get-go, I could see that this wasn’t going to be my favorite book in the series. ![]() It all comes down to this - I just wanted a lot more from this novel. Sadly, I did not have a lot of love for The Queen of Nothing. Jude Duarte is one of my absolute favorite characters ever, and her and Cardan’s dynamic is written incredibly well. ![]() You can see said love in my The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King reviews. Not long afterwards, however, he went out after some deer which were to be found in a far corner of his forests. One day his queen presented him with a baby daughter as beautiful as the dawn, and the king himself was so happy and delighted that, for a whole week, he forgot to hunt, and spent the time in public and private rejoicing. In this way he found out what the common people said about him, and how his judges and governors fulfilled their duties.
